Miami is a city built by people who live in a continuous exchange of cultural references. Many times called a “melting pot” of cultures, our city grows with the diversity that thrives in the streets. So, how can we define our identity? This question leads to multiple stories with deep roots in our communities, and Arts Connection Foundation proposed an Open Call to collect these stories and wants to share them.

Thus, the Foundation selected “Identity: the New Frontier” as the curatorial theme for video-art proposals for the 2019 Miami New Media Festival (MNMF), XIV Edition. To go further the MNMF encouraged artists responding to the call to explore topics related to themes such as women, gender, immigration, and other vital issues for minorities. The video-art proposals can put these struggles in the spotlight by overcoming limitations and obstacles, sometimes built by ourselves.
